lyrics

When it’s too dark to sleep
in this tiny room,
you are the sun thrown
like a baseball through
the asylum window.

Your voice is an ocean
caught in the seashell of my ear.
I record my dreams of you
as witnesses confessing on the stand.

And I keep the documents
tucked in my pillowcase.
They whisper, “I don’t hate you,
I don’t hate you so much…”

Your lips are the cover
of a diary I keep in mind.
Your kisses are cigarettes
put out on these lips of mine.

You keep lighting the same one
for hours and hours…
No wonder it’s so hard
to quit smoking…

A poem about you is a message
I leave on your machine;
there’s never enough time
to say what I mean…
There’s never enough time
to mean what I say…

Each stanza is a subtitle
describing each scene.
This page is our life as
a silent movie…
